One phenomenon is that BTC makes everyone hold back on on-chain transfers, paying gas, and not wasting precious BTC. ETH encourages everyone to spend gas on-chain.
However, from a consumer's perspective, using U for payment is the most reasonable. Not only should we use U, but we should also implement a subscription model, like mobile SMS and data: 5U for 1000 messages, 10U for 2GB. Don't forget, we must also maintain decentralization.
So looking at it this way, the infrastructure is certainly still in its early stages.
